Accepted or Initiate?
The Initiates are those that have come to the Temple seeking enlightenment, knowledge, spiritual advancement, or are even just curious about the Temple and have chosen to spend time with the Brothers and Sisters of the Temple to better understand the ways of the White Lady. The Initiates wear the red robe marking them as still studying and have not yet committed themselves to the Temple.
The Accepted, who wear the white robes, are those that have accepted the ways of the White Lady and committed themselves to the Temple. While not required to give up their past lives, most Accepted do move into the Temple spaces and live among their sisters and brothers of the faith.
The Transition from Initiate to Accepted
After visiting with and studying at the Temple the Initiates will arrive at a time when they may choose to join the Temple and become one of the Accepted. When that time comes, a ritual ceremony is performed, called the Ceremony of Acceptance, which formalizes the Initiate's request to join the Temple.
As part of the ceremony, the Initiate divests themselves of their old lives symbolically by divesting themselves of the red robes and stepping into the pool of purification. When they have swum across its length, symbolically purifying themselves in both body and mind, they are granted the white robes of one of the Accepted and are welcomed into the Temple's family.
Those Initiates who elect not to join the Temple (and do not become one of the Accepted) are free to leave the Temple at any time to return to their former lives.
